[FILTERED FROM: Alice & other children]

Not that I object to staying in bed for two weeks, but some company might have improved the experience.

[End Filter]

Did anything exciting happen while I was asleep?

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-06-03 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[...someone was actually gunning for that, not too long ago. Making his life disappear, erasing his memories. The thought disturbs him now, though, but he's not sure if it's because of the inherent creepiness in the thought, or because of how close to home it hits.

[He keeps it to himself, however.]

I can't think of anything that happens here that isn't just to mess with our heads.

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-06-04 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Good point.

Whoever's causing all this is probably having a party up there, thinking up the weirdest things they can.

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I certainly would be.

I'd like to think I'd be more creative than ripping off Jurassic Park, though.

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Or recycling old days, like that Butler Day.

*Makes a whoop-dee-doo gesture, glancing at the castle.* That was real original, guys.

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Or just locking us up in a warehouse. Certainly they could have exerted a bit more effort there.

Dungeons with torture implements, perhaps, with a crashing sea outside, salt air, executioners with axes...

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
... Just for the record, if they're listening in and taking notes while you list all that, I'm blaming you.

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
[That gets a laugh out of Youji.]

Theoretically, they already have access to the worst fears, memories, and horrors experienced or imagined by anyone who's ever fallen asleep here.

I doubt they're pressed for ideas; they would be more worried about time to implement them all.

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
*Snorts.* Good point.

If you think about it that way, though, it all starts getting a little fishy...

Actually, make that very fishy. If they're screwing with our heads, then why pull punches? They know our worst nightmares. Why settle for weedy gardens if they could do that much worse?

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
If they break us all now, what will they do tomorrow?

[Youji's seen enough cruelty for cruelty's sake over the years.]

Instant gratification is just that: instant. Then it's gone.

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
*The connection between such sadism and their situation is a surprise, but not as foreign as it should be.* So... that's all this is to them?

All this imprisonment, all these hallucinations and monsters--it's all so they can torture us slowly? They're drawing it out?

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, this is purely conjecture. It's my nature to assume the worst.

It's also possible that whoever is in charge here intended to save us from something. I don't know. We're not really given a lot of information to work with, are we?

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
No, we've got next to nothing at all. But saving us from something? Not likely. What'd they save me, from, another ghost invasion?

If we're looking for reasons to be here that aren't evil, then... well, what if we're here to help them?
Edited 2010-06-09 06:12 (UTC)

please forgive my general fail at life. orz.

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Intriguing.

I wonder what ostensibly normal people like us could do, though.

[This is a test. Youji already knows of people who are decidedly Not Normal. He wonders how Danny will react to this.]

Nooo problem~ <3

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
What can we do? *There's no hesitation, but his performance is flawed: the timing of his 'beats me' grimace and small shrug is almost rehearsed, and the serious, problem-solving quality of his tone has turned to something that's a shade too close to carelessness. Whatever it all means, it doesn't fit in with how he was before: Youji's test has found something.*

I dunno. Superpowers aren't everything, so maybe they just need people at the right time and the right place.

^0^

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
[It has. Not that Youji lets on. But there is something hiding here. Something to pursue another time; as someone who is both naturally casual and uses the fact as camouflage for his actual intelligence...]

But it still begs the questions of what, why, and how. Even if you're in the right place at the right time, there is generally still an action of kind involved.

See? Your fail-at-life has nothing on my fail. 8|

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
*After a pained moment of trying to address the complexities Youji is pointing out, Danny grimaces, shakes his head a little, and just shrugs. Those questions aren't all new, but they're definitely ones he prefers to take in stride. Sitting around and agonizing over it all? That's nothing but painful, and he already knows it.*

If there's some kind of action for us, then it's something we can do. They wouldn't assign us anything too impossible, right?

I am determined to reclaim my title. 8D

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
[...that depends on the who is in charge of this debacle. But Danny's a kid, and Youji decides not to explain to him the meaning of 'expendable.']

I certainly hope not.

Not that there seems to be much to it. We get some time to ourselves, then things get messed up for a week, then back to normal. Hopefully, this is as impossible as it will get.

You'll have to do worse than that to get it. 8||||

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-08-11 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
*Sorry, Youji--it was a nice try. Even as he avoids burdening the kid, though, Danny's thoughts have already turned in a similar direction: maybe there really are helpless people being called. Danny's face, already twisted with a grimace and the growing pressure of lying, darkens a shade further. Maybe whoever's behind all this is playing a sick game, trying to see who survives and who doesn't. He's seen things like that before--not identical, but similar.*

Yeah. hopefully. *Doesn't sound very optimistic. In fact, by now he looks more pessimistic than anything else.*

Then again, these week-long crazy things didn't always used to happen. Maybe we're nearing some kind of deadline, and the closer we get, the crazier things go.

I'll work on it!

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-08-11 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
...that I've never heard before, that the week-long crazy things are somewhat new.

Have I asked you how long you've been here?

Take your time on that. There's no rush!

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-08-11 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
*Shrugs.*

Uh. I've been here since....

*Somehow, his mood darkens still further as he tries to count. After a few seconds, he gives up.* ... Since May-ish. Last year.

It's coming along~

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Eyebrows raise. At least you're older than Alice, though.]

Quite a little vacation you're enjoying.

[identity profile] phantomfenton.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, if this is a 'vacation', I want a refund.

A few days, or even a week, that's fine. I can handle that. An entire year, though--that's more than too much. By now I'd give anything just to go home.

[identity profile] slantedcross.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Something like that, if what I'm told is true. My roommate was here before, then left; to him it's like the previous visit never happened.

Not exactly the same, but close. Though I'm sure you've had your own experiences along those lines.
