This whole concept of otherwise independent people losing their identities just for the sake of someone with a god complex who's too much a coward to act themselves is distasteful to me. I don't want Kija doing what I tell him to do because he's supposed to, or something stupid like that. Ideally, he ought to be able to make his own choices. He could even act against me, if he thought that was best. God knows, my colleagues have thought so in the past.
Since that's not going to happen, then, I suppose I'll have to start taking his advice. The adjustment period might go on a little longer, however-- do forgive me.

That's all fine and good, but you're missing something. Rather than selfishly telling yourself that you're doing a good thing by ignoring him, and that you're being forced into this, realize that you're in a partnership. It's forced on both sides. Pity isn't going to do anything for him or for you.

I do wonder, honestly, if the more unsettling aspects of being a shinki are lost on someone, when it's all they know. Probably it varies from person to person. I'm probably not going to stop being disturbed by it anytime soon.
But I will... hm. "Try harder" doesn't seem like a very honest thing to say, when I wasn't trying to begin with. I'll leave it at 'try' for now.
Most everyone is disturbed by it, whether it's all they know or not. Some handle it better than others, of course, but don't make the mistake of thinking that we shinki need your guidance and self-restraint to have better lives.
